Miserable Mastitis

I've nursed for 20 months with no problems...until yesterday. My left breast was mildly sore, but then I came down with a fever, bodyache and chills quite suddenly. Went to the dr. today for an antibiotic prescription, but I am loathe to take it. www.kellymom.com has some suggestions for treating mastitis naturally...so I have to decide what I'm going to do. Mark's parents are arriving this evening for several days, so I don't want to be miserable the whole time. I covet your prayers!

I had mastitis a couple of weeks ago. Isn't that weird that we got it after nursing for so long? Daniel is ten months old!

I was miserable that first day, but my doctor called in some Keflex for me, and I felt almost normal the next day. Warm compresses also help. I would advise taking the antibiotic since it is an infection. I'm sure your doctor gave you something that is safe for your babies. If you would like for me to double check, I would be glad to. It might be worse for your boys to have a sick mommy than to get a little bit of antibiotic.

I hope you feel better soon. That was the worst I have felt in a long, long time.

I hope you feel better too! I can't imagine how miserable you feel and tired with a new baby at the same time!

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with mastitis, especially right now! I hope you're feeling better this morning. Wish we were there to meet Cole and celebrate Christmas with you!

Your mother says take the antibiotic. I agree with Nikki - enjoy your company and your family. Since you are so careful with antibiotics, your risk of taking them too often and rendering them ineffective is quite slim. You have my prayers, and I trust one way or another you will feel better shortly. I love you!
